Industrial development in the Kalyan, Ambarnath, Shahad, Dombivli complex has taken place during the
last 50 years. MIDC could provide infrastructure facilities like road, water supply and industrial sheds
and this acted as an incentive for rapid industrial growth. At present there are more than 1,700
units (excluding Ulhasnagar) established in this area with a capital investment of over 2000 crores
and providing employment to nearly 1 lakh workers.
There arose a necessity of a body of organization of the industries which could help the industries to solve their own problems and KALYAN AMBERNATH MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION – KAMA, came into existence. It was started by the big industrial units but later on with the development of industrial estates a number of small scale units also joined KAMA. At present KAMA represents large, medium and small scale industries. KAMA members contribute nearly 60-70% of the industrial turnover in the area. The membership of KAMA has increased from 10 (1959) to 433 (2007).
KAMA functions through its Executive Council, with representation of each area and sector of the industry. Subject committees focus on issues like Safety, Small Scale, Textiles, Manpower, Taxation, Environment and Utilities. The Executive council meets every month to review the progress of the activities undertaken and to discuss the action plan of the association.
